Why not ask

Ever wanted something really bad but was afraid to ask? I know I have. There have been times in my life that I really wanted something but was afraid it was way too much to ask for. We do the same thing with GOD.

I believe that GOD has a lot that He wants us to have but we are afraid to ask for it. Now, I am NOT a proponent of the "name it and claim it" or the "blab it and grab it" philosophy. I don't for one second believe it works that way. However, I do believe that we miss out on a few things because we are afraid to ask, or we are afraid of the commitment required to receive it.

Today's word is a very familiar passage from 1 Chronicles 4:10, NIV, which reads, "Jabez cried out to the GOD of Israel, 'Oh that You would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let Your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.' And, God granted his request."

Jabez's very name meant "sorrow" or "trouble". He had been born during a time of much pain and sorrow for his mother. Israel was suffering for their past mistakes and failures. It was heartbreaking to think of a son having to grow up in a world like that. Sound familiar?

Verse 9 tells us that Jabez was more honorable, he was more moral than his brothers. He didn't want to be a pain; he didn't want to cause any pain. So, he prayed that GOD would bless him and expand his influence, to protect him and to keep him from pain and from being a pain. And, GOD GRANTED HIS REQUEST!

I pray that GOD will allow me to be a positive influence and less of a pain to all those that I may come across. I pray that His blessings continue to flow on my family and me.

Ask. You just never know how it will be answered.

Be Blessed,
Mickey T
