There is an old saying that goes, "Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime." I'm sure we have all seen this play out is some form or another in our lives. There are lots of people who want a hand out but fewer who want a hand up; there are more that want you to give them something than that want to go out and earn something.
I think there are even those that you can try to teach how to fish that wouldn't want to stand in the hot sun and fish, that's just too hot and too much work. Yet, how rewarding it is to have someone take the time to teach me a practical skill. Knowledge can be very powerful. So, too, can the lack of knowledge.
Today's word is Proverbs 20:15, NLT, which reads, "Wise words are more valuable than much gold and many rubies."
King Solomon decided and reminded us all that wise words, someone telling us, showing us, how to do something was more precious than gold or fine jewels. Knowledge is something that can't be bought. Oh, you can "buy" an education, but, working for one, studying and striving, learning, obtaining knowledge is far more valuable.
I have been very blessed to have those who have instilled things in me, who have taken the time to teach me to fish instead of giving me the fish. I am grateful that GOD has put people in my life that will take the time to teach me things and instill in me things that have benefited me, and will continue to do so. I also pray that GOD will allow me to dispense some wise words.
Be Blessed,
Mickey T
